03. Empowered... In the workplace - Matt Carvel // Colossians 3:22-24
In our exploration of work through a biblical lens, we uncover profound truths about our purpose and identity. The passage from Colossians 3 invites us to view our daily labour as more than just a means to an end, but as a divine calling. We're reminded that work is not a consequence of sin, but a gift from God established at creation. This perspective transforms our mundane tasks into opportunities to reflect God's nature and participate in His ongoing work of cultivation and care for the world. As we grapple with the challenges of work in a fallen world, we're encouraged to find redemption and renewal through our relationship with Christ. By working 'as for the Lord,' we infuse our efforts with eternal significance, knowing that Jesus sees, values, and will reward our faithful service. This week, choose one aspect of your work to consciously do "as unto the Lord." Reflect on how this changes your approach.
Ask a trusted friend or family member if your relationship to work seems healthy. Be open to their feedback.
Identify one boundary you need to set in your work life to better steward your time and energy. Make a plan to implement it.
Practice talking to Jesus throughout your workday this week. Set reminders if needed to pause and invite His presence into your tasks.
Reflect on how your work, no matter how seemingly insignificant, might be bringing order, beauty, or blessing to others as a reflection of God's character.
