03. The Advent Series // Seeing God - George Benson // John 1:1-9
Jesus is described here as the Word, as God, as Creator, as Life and as Life. John then expands on this idea of Light, that He is Light for the sake of the world - that men who are in darkness are exposed to Christ who is Light.
Light is certainly a strong theme of the Nativity narrative. A star leads the wise men, an angel appears to Mary and to Joseph and to the shepherds in the fields.

The Word in context of the Trinity; the Speaker, the Word and the Breath.
‘In the beginning’ Genesis. Creation, creator being made flesh.
New Creation? Life and light themes. Jesus has come to be the light again. Revealing grand narrative
On ‘Seeing God’
This does happen in the Bible -
Genesis 32:30 So Jacob called the name of the place Peniel, saying, “For I have seen God face to face, and yet my life has been delivered.”
Isaiah 6:1 In the year that King Uzziah died I saw the Lord sitting upon a throne, high and lifted up; and the train of his robe filled the temple.
Ezekiel 1:28 Like the appearance of the bow that is in the cloud on the day of rain, so was the appearance of the brightness all around. Such was the appearance of the likeness of the glory of the Lord. And when I saw it, I fell on my face, and I heard the voice of one speaking.
The wise men in Matthew 2 travelled 1000 miles to see the LORD and they weren’t even the covenant people! The religious leaders of the Jews knew the signs, yet they didn’t travel an ‘afternoon’s stroll’ to go and see the messiah: (Matthew 2:4-6 “and assembling all the chief priests and scribes of the people, he inquired of them where the Christ was to be born. 5 They told him, “In Bethlehem of Judea, for so it is written by the prophet: 6 “‘And you, O Bethlehem, in the land of Judah, are by no means least among the rulers of Judah; for from you shall come a ruler who will shepherd my people Israel”) EXHOR: Take up the offer to ‘see the light’
