01. #WeAreEmmanuel 12 Stay Inspired Pt3

Key reading: 1 Peter 2: 2-10
1. Worship Expresses Desire- Without worship, things can remain in the category of simple agreement or a certain type of belief. However, worship is about what we want and long for. The reality is that we can’t help but be creatures of deep spiritual desire. It’s not enough to simply believe the right things. That alone will not change us. You can believe there is a God but still in your heart reject Him. The definition of a Christian is someone who has tasted and seen that the Lord is good. The level of knowledge in experiencing God, as opposed to just knowing in your mind, is how the heart will change. Being rational is only part of how we are made. The problem is what we give our hearts to and that it tends to be anything but God. We tend to be driven by our emotions and affections rather than truth. When your heart is changed, your mind is renewed through worshipping God and orienting your life around Him. The passionate commitment to other gods other than the real God and the suspicion that the taste of the true God is not good is something that needs to be rethought and reconsider what might actually be glorious.
2. Worship Is A Response To Revelation- Left to ourselves we will get attracted to whatever wins our heart, which tends to be anything other than God. However, when you are revealed to the glory of God, He has a way of removing the idols in our heart. God brings revelation to show us his worth, beauty and preciousness, so that we can respond in worshipping Him. The normal human response to Jesus when we really get to know what he wants is to resist him. If there is any being in the universe who sees things clear and straight- it’s God. God sees Jesus as chosen and precious. Learn to gravitate towards the one who is most precious in God’s sight- Jesus. As we do this, worship becomes something more natural to us as we see he is worthy and are drawn to him.
3. Worship Doesn’t Stay Private- Spirituality in 21st century Brighton can focus on seeing worship as self-contained rather than outwardly expressing it. The Bible has no problem with the joining between the physical and the spiritual. God gave us a physical body and encourages communion such as the bread and wine and using our voice to praise Him, raising arms etc. It’s not just an internal thing, but should be expressed outwardly too. A priest is someone who is also able to bring others through their own priesthood into access to God. Christians are able to be priests onto one another as brothers and sisters (1 Peter 2:9). Even the times when you don’t feel like meeting up with people, being around Gods people can be healing to your soul. It gives you a whole different perspective. This happens in gatherings with fellow believers.
4. Worship Proclaims The Good News of Jesus Christ- You’ve been chosen by God so that you can proclaim Him to others. One of the best ways you can do this is by bringing them to the gathering of Gods people because when together it is a proclamation of the Gospel in many ways- they get to see demonstrations of the kingdom and worship on an extraordinary level. We are to proclaim that Jesus is worthy and better than anything else.
